Night and Sunday premiums are paid on top of the hours, which your monthly salary already covers. Extra hours, overtime and sixth days fall outside the 40-hour week, so they are paid in full at your rate plus the premium.
These are gross amounts. For full-time employees, statutory night, Sunday/holiday and overtime premiums are exempt from insurance contributions (e-EFKA circular 21/2025). This does not make them tax-free; a single deduction percentage cannot reliably give net extra pay.
Which hours go where?
Extra hours or overtime?
On a five-day week, extra work is normally the ninth hour of a day when weekly work exceeds 40 hours, up to five extra hours per week. Work beyond nine hours in one day is overtime even if that week's total stays below 45. Split the categories from your daily records before entering monthly totals.
How many night hours does my shift contain?
Count only work between 22:00 and 06:00. A 21:00–05:00 shift contains seven night hours before any unpaid break. Split shifts at midnight when checking whether hours fall on a Sunday or public holiday. Special shift-work rules can change the Sunday boundary.
Does the premium replace my day off?
Sunday premium and compensatory rest are different entitlements. Sunday work of more than five hours generally gives 24 hours of compensatory rest. A public holiday alone does not create the same rest entitlement. This tool estimates pay; it does not validate the rota.
How do I check my payslip?
Compare daily start/end times, breaks and declared overtime with myErgani and your payslip. With an eligible digital-card reporting system, overtime can lawfully be declared after it is worked, by the end of the following month. Missing advance declaration alone does not establish illegal overtime.

Example: 4 night hours and 2 overtime hours
With a gross salary of €1,100 and a statutory minimum of €920 for the position, four scheduled night hours add €5.52. Two separate hours of lawful daytime overtime add €18.48. Total: €24.00 in extra gross pay.
Compare the hours recorded in myErgani with your payslip. The calculator uses different wage bases for night work and overtime. If overtime overlaps with night work, a Sunday or a public holiday, calculate that overlap separately.
How is a Sunday night shift paid?
If you work from 22:00 on Sunday until 02:00 on Monday within your regular schedule, count 4 night hours and 2 Sunday hours. This example follows the general rule that Sunday ends at midnight. Enter the hours from 22:00 to 00:00 in both fields because both premiums apply.
With a statutory monthly wage of €920 for the position and a 40-hour week, the statutory hourly rate is €5.52. The night premium is 4 × €5.52 × 25% = €5.52, and the Sunday premium is 2 × €5.52 × 75% = €8.28. That is €13.80 gross on top of the monthly salary, provided Monday is not a public holiday and the job is not exclusively night work.
