How the annual leave allowance is calculated

The allowance equals ordinary gross pay for the leave days, capped at half a month’s salary. The estimate assumes steady employment, pay and working days. It gives the total allowance before subtracting any amounts you have already received.

In the first calendar year, leave accrues from a base of 20 days for a five day week or 24 days for a six day week per 12 months. For partial months, the estimate uses the fraction of calendar days. In year two, the estimate uses a base of 21 or 25 days for the period after the first anniversary. From the third calendar year, the full annual leave entitlement is available, with another day added at the second anniversary. Recognized prior service can increase the number of days.

For fixed monthly pay, estimated pay per working day of leave is monthly pay ÷ 25 for a six day week, and monthly pay ÷ 25 × 6/5 for a five day week. Both schedules receive six days of pay per week. Enter the confirmed gross leave pay if payroll has provided it.

Example with €1,500 gross pay and a 1 October start date

Three months on a five day schedule correspond to 5 working days of annual leave. That gives 5 × €72 = €360 gross, below the €750 cap. A six day week gives 6 days × €60 for the same amount.
